Resilience Earth is a non-profit cooperative of researchers, educators and consultants working in the fields of community resilience, ecological regeneration, social solidarity economy and transformative communication. Their headquarters are in Olot (Catalonia), where they are one of the founding entities that co-manage the community centre "Núria Social" (https://nuriasocial.org). They run two regional Social Solidarity Economy centres (https://www.cerclegr.org/), and also recently launched the first cooperative supermarket in the region (https://www.artigacoop.org). In 2019, they engaged 5840 active participants in our workshops and community processes.
Purpose of Resilience Earth
The purpose of Resilience Earth is 'To accompany and accelerate change processes for community and territorial regeneration.' They follow the principles of equity, equilibrium, empathy and essence.
Their main strategic goals are: - Leverage social and ecological change, towards a system that includes and emerges from our existing paradigm. - Foster community participation in decision making and community stewardship of the land. - Research, innovate and share knowledge and wisdom about our impact and responsability on Earth
History of Resilience Earth
The origins of Resilience Earth go back to 2006, the year in which the Mas Franch cooperative was created, located in Sant Feliu de Pallerols (Garrotxa, Catalonia) and active for almost a decade. Initially it was just a summer camp house, but it soon became a space meant to facilitate processes of social transformation through education, sustainability and the exchange of experiences and training in different fields. The project gained momentum in 2014, when a group of people, including Erika Zarate and Oscar Gussinyer, founded Resilience Earth, a nonprofit organisation that promotes change management from the social economy and solidarity, regenerative development and transformative communication. In 2015, Resilience Earth moved to its current offices, at Núria Social, located in the heart of the old quarter of Olot.
A building that was born as a Workers' Center (1894-1936) and later housed a cinema (1943-2001). It is currently a coworking space managed by the Núria Social Association and hosts the Resilience Earth cooperative, the Arriant training and leisure company, the director Marc Planagumà and the cultural manager Marta Riera.
The space also includes a multipurpose room that includes events of all kinds (cultural, social, festive) and the canteen, a gastronomic reference in the center of Olot thanks to its popular prices and options for vegetarians and vegans.
